Collection: Otomi Collection
Otomi embroidery, is steeped in tradition and cultural significance created by Otomi artisans from Tenango de Doria, Hidalgo, Mexico. This remarkable technique, which can take weeks or months to create, features the skillful arrangement of stylized figurative elements, predominantly in a symmetric pattern. The typical menagerie inspired by primitive cave drawings includes animals like armadillos, roosters, squirrels, and deer. Four and eight pointed stars representing the cardinal directions. And the Flowers represent nature and fertility.
The Otomi people's resilience and innovation shine through in the face of adversity. The 1960s brought a severe drought to the region, prompting the development of a simplified iteration of this intricate craft known as "Tenango". The Otomi textiles are a cherished tradition that has been handed down through the generations.
